As more and more leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS recognize the potential for outreach and education in Second Life (SL), their focus has gone virtual.  This year's World AIDS Day events promise to break new ground as a diverse group of international organizations join Karuna (the NLM-funded HIV/AIDS sim in SL) and its SL partners to cross borders of time, space, and geography to celebrate the lives of those dealing with HIV/AIDS.

In 1958, the idea of Research Triangle Park (RTP) was born with the guidance and support of government, education, and business in North Carolina. Located in the rolling hills of the Piedmont, the Research Triangle is defined by outstanding universities in the Triangle's three cities: North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Duke University in Durham, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina Central University in Durham.

One of the oldest and largest science parks in North America, The Research Triangle Park (RTP) is a 7,000 acre development that is home to more than 170 companies employing over 42,000 full-time knowledge workers and an estimated 10,000 contract employees. Located at the core of the Raleigh-Durham-Cary CSA (Combined Statistical Area), RTP is a globally prominent high-technology research and development center that serves as an economic driver for the region.

RTP is home to a broad spectrum of companies -- from Fortune 100 multinational research and development operations, to university spin-outs and start-up operations. In addition, a number of U.S. federal agencies have a presence in the Park.
