The Virtual Worlds Story Project and Karuna - Celebrating Life

Karuna* is a word from Pali, an ancient language of India, and means to ease suffering and bring about happiness and well-being.  Some of Karuna's goals include:

  • Provide up-to-date, accurate information about HIV/AIDS.

  • Collaborate with national and international HIV/AIDS organizations and educational institutions to educate, prevent, de-stigmatize, and personalize the subject of HIV/AIDS.

  • Serve as a bridge between worlds by providing a variety of activities and forums in both first and Second Life.

  • Offer support, entertainment, creative, and cultural outlets.

  • Offer a community where people of all ages, races, culture, religions and beliefs are welcome.

  • Collect, preserve, and share the stories of those dealing with HIV/AIDS in a variety of formats and media.

*Karuna is funded by a grant from the National Library of Medicine written by Lori Bell,  Director of Innovations at the Alliance Library System in East Peoria, Illinois.
